ED07462 - Eduard Weekend Edition
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk VIII was a World War II British single-seat fighter aircraft developed as the true successor to the Mk V, powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin 60- or 70-series engine. It had a maximum speed of 655-669 km/h (404-416 mph) and a maximum ceiling range of 43,000 and a range of 1094 km.
The aircraft had a length of 9.54 m and a wingspan of 11.23 m. It also featured a retractable tail wheel (reducing drag), a reinforced fuselage for higher power, extended fuel capacity via leading-edge tanks, and an enlarged rudder/fin for improved stability.
It was armed with universal wings capable of housing four 20 mm cannons or two 20 mm cannons and four .303 Browning machine guns, plus up to 1,000 lbs of external bomb load.
Although intended to be the standard RAF fighter, delays meant the stop-gap Mk IX Spitfire took primary focus in Europe. Consequently, the Mk VIII (totaling 1,658 built) saw extensive service overseas in the Mediterranean (Italy, Sicily), the Far East (India and Burma against Japanese offensives), and with the RAAF in the South West Pacific.
This is a Weekend edition kit of British WWII fighter aircraft Spitfire Mk.VIII in 1/72 scale.
