History - Spanish Training Ship J.S. Elcano
The Juan Sebastian Elcano was a Spanish Schooner Brig Sailboat that was named after the Spanish explorer Juan Sebastian Elcano who Captained the first ship to traverse around the world in 1522.
The J.S. Elcano was launched in 1927 in Cadiz, and served as a training ship for the Marine Guards of the Spanish Navy. The ship still continues to sail thousands of miles every year.
Kit Contents
This modelling kit is a perfect initiation into naval modelling and has been created for the beginner modeller with some features that reduce the timber crafting skills needed for the more advanced models.
The Hull is pre-formed and made of plastic. The timber boards have been laser cut and there are many photo etched parts as well as brass and cast iron components with cotton hand sewn fabric sails.
Alternatively, Artesania have included a figurehead, flag and name plate so that the Chilean Navy ship Esmeralda can be constructed rather than the J.S. Elcano.
Assembly Instructions are provided on video in DVD format. The video shows experienced modellers constructing the kit with many helpful hints to improve your experience.
This kit is recommended for wood modelling beginners, 14 years and older. The completed kit will measure 455mm long, 255mm tall with a 110mm beam.
This kit does not include glue, paint or tools, all will be necessary to complete this kit. A display stand is included.
