The Brigade Hermann Goering was re-designated in October 1942, upgraded form regimental status, with Luftwaffe ground personnel. By 1942, it was again upgraded to Division size, known as Panzer-Division Hermann Goering, the only armoured division in the Luftwaffe.
Developed from anti-aircraft units, the anti aircraft regiments were still the backbone of the division, therefore it is not surprised that self propelled anti-aircraft g vehicles were necessary.
A special modification Sd.Kfz.251 mobile anti-aircraft vehicle was designed for the division. With a crew of 6, this vehicle was based on Version C, installing a platform in its original crew cabin to accomodate the 20mm Flak 38, which owned a 360 degree rotational freedom. Side armoured plates were collapsible so that the gun could be used against ground targets also, which provided additional space for the crew operating the turret.
This vehicle also was equipped with additional radio sets, providing communication for the company and commanders.
