This earlier variation of the P-51 was powered by an American-built Allison V-1710-39 engine. 93 of these planes were lend-leased to the UK for the RAF and were named Mustang Mk IA. 57 of them were used by the USAAF in the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations (MTO) from 1943.
