F-100C Super Sabre Scale 1:32
TR-03221 - Trumpeter
The F-100C Super Sabre first flew in March 1954 and there were 456 of this fighter/bomber aircraft produced. The C model was fitted with additional fuel tanks in the wings and external store pylons under the wings so it could carry 6,000 pounds of bombs and the additional external fuel tanks. The aeroplane was fitted with a single Pratt and Whitney J57-P-21/21A Turbojet which produced 10,200 pounds of thrust and 16,000 when after-burning. It had a maximum speed of 760mph at sea level and 852 mph at 35,000 feet and an initial climb rate of 23,800 feet per minute.
The C Model was also capable of air refuelling where the probe initially extended straight forward of the leading edge of the right wing. The aircraft was flown behind a tanker aircraft with a long refuelling hose and basket. The pilot moved forward, plugged the probe into the basket and maintained forward pressure during the fuel transfer. This straight probe was difficult to use and was later reconfigured with an upward bend to raise the height and extend the end of the probe.
The United States Air Force Thunderbirds stunt team performed in the F-100C from 1956 until 1964.
The plane had a wingspan of 38 feet 10 inches, an overall length of just over 46 feet and a height of 15 feet 6 inches. It weighed 21,712 pounds empty and a maximum of 39,122 pounds for takeoff.
Internal armament consisted of four 20-mm Pontiac M-39 cannons. Underwing loads could include up to 6000 pounds of bombs and fuel tanks on six stations.
